Masashi Kishimoto is a Japanese manga artist, best known for his manga series, Naruto. It was published weekly in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1999 to 2014 and collected into 72 tankōbon volumes by Shueisha. Kishimoto has been involved in the series adaptation with Studio Pierrot, which has endured for 500 episodes of anime series and 11 theatrical films.

As a manga artist, Kishimoto was heavily influenced by the author of Dragon Ball and One Piece and the conventional archetypes. He cited his other influences as Fukuoka Haruya's Western-style drawings, the manga Coji-Coji and the anime adaptation of Circle of Friends. Initially, Kishimoto had created two inpidual manga series, Karakuri, which was rejected by Shueisha, and Naruto, which was accepted for serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump.

In Naruto series, Kishimoto made use of various motifs, in order to make the series unique. He also frequently added references from popular culture, such as references from other anime and manga series, American comics and even film references, in order to make the series more appealing. He also used particular techniques adapted from American comics, such as occasional full-page panel shots and effects, bursts of speed lines and exaggerated facial expressions.

Kishimoto also created the sequel of Naruto in series called Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, which premiered on April 5, 2017 by Shueisha in Japan. Since 2017, Kishimoto has been collaborating with Ukyō Kodachi as the writer and Mikio Ikemoto as the illustrator on the Boruto manga. In addition, Kishimoto is also currently working with The Moment Pictures on a Naruto-based live-action film.

Kishimoto has received several awards, including the 2012 Shogakukan Manga Award in the shonen category for his creation of Naruto. In 2018, Kishimoto was honoured with an induction into the Will Eisner Comic Awards Hall of Fame.

Kishimoto is one of the most significant manga artist of all time and a true pioneer of the anime and manga industry that created the iconic character of Naruto and its success beyond any other expectation. His unique style of artwork, creative story-telling and unconventional approach to the characters of the manga has made his work extremely popular worldwide.
